William Alpert is an Associate Professor of Economics at
the University of Connecticut. Author of numerious publications
and an active instructor, Dr. Alpert is also the Special
Advisor to the William H. Donor Foundation, Inc. and the

Course Offerings
ECON 111 - Principles of Macroeconomics
- Either semester. Three credits. May be taken before or
after Economics 112. May not be taken concurrently with
Economics 112.
- The organization and function of the economic system
as a total unit. Economic decisions, institutions, and policies
that determine levels and rates of growth of production,
employment, and prices. Topical subjects (e.g. government
budget deficits and current interest rate policy).
ECON 112 - Principles of Microeconomics
- Either semester. Three credits. May be taken before or
after Economics 111. May not be taken concurrently with
Economics 111.
- How the invisible hand of the market functions through
the economic decisions of firms and individuals. How prices,
wages and profits are determined, resources are allocated
and income is distributed. Topical subjects (e.g., energy
policy and health care).

Frequently Asked Questions About Instructor Certification
- Q: What are the minimum requirements for instructor
certification?
- A: The minimum degree requirement for instructors wishing
to teach Early College Experience economics courses is
usually a Bachelor's degree. The candidate must have appropriately
strong background in economics including intermediate
economics theory plus several junior level or above economics
courses.
